Suncore Z10 combined heat and power being tested in South Africa

Two Z10 CHP systems have been installed in Port Elizabeth as part of the process of launching the technology into the South African and African markets. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is a unique solar technology wher both hot water and electricity are produced by a single device. Unike conventional solar technology which falls into either the electrical production (photovoltaics or PV) category or thermal production category, CHP does does both.

In order to do this, concentrated solar technology is used where the intensity of irradiance is focussed onto a very small area of photovoltaic cells (triple junction space technology). The cells then need to be cooled and a coolant loop is installed where all 'waste' heat is stored in a volume of water.

The technology has an overall solar efficiency above 70%. Two Z10 units will be monitored through Suncore's online system where data will be assessed by the Suncore Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the United States.
